Hehe, this is actually a nice idea. My second xfg skin was a citroen :-)
Also your skins might not be perfect, but I like the clean racing style of them! At least no shopping lists on the sides, no mirrored decal sets, no dorifto!
I remember a porsche GT2 wearing the KTM logo once, wanna do cycle brands too? There were/are many old (eastern) german, english and russian manufacturers, maybe MZ, Java, Puch, NSU and so on.

keep 'em coming I say!!

1. My girlfriend is more important than anything else in the world
2. I've seen every episode of the fall guy at least once
3. the flat can be shite as long as the view outside is great
4. I've rolled a mini once. shame on me
5. I'm maybe the slowest lfs driver
6. I've got at least 100 favourite songs, depends on the situation. I can play/rewind/ffwd those songs in my head, then when I switch on the mp3-player I find out I've really "thought" the song in the right tone height (whatever you call it)
7. 16 years ago I was the singer of a Guns n' Roses cover band (shame again)
8. I hate wrestling, boxing and the like
9. I've got a strange kind of memory filter... I never forget unimportant stuff noone cares about
10. When I was 7 a friend asked me which soccer team I like best, fc bayern or vfb stuttgart. I said stuttgart and have been called a fan for years, although I've never been interested in that sport at all.

PS: One more:
11. When riding alone on my bicycle I turn into an unforgiving agressive beast, maybe because too many stupid car drivers have been trying to kill me.

wow, I really love drift city! The physics are up to date and far more realistic than lfs! It almost seems as realistic as nfs:u!
if it costs under 80€, I'll buy it

Quote from Jakg :Main Question - Are you capable of building a PC yourself?

Hardly I guess ;-)
As PAracer asked before, what will you need it for?
gaming, watching videos, making movies, ...........
If you just want to play games you might not need a quad core at all.
if you want to make movies, 2gig+ of ram are useful.
If you like to simply have a better computer than the other guy without even knowing anything, then you might have to invest 2500$ and get a fully modded watercooled dual quad core processor with 8gigs of ram, 8800sli and a flashy green light.

1st: Since some of us know each other at least a bit, we know who to trust. So when popps tells me someone's done something stupid I tend to believe him in the first place.

2ndon't forget we're ventrilo neighbours :-)

3rd: There isn't a name in the first thread (anymore), so it is NO name and shame.

4th: There are several people on my personal blacklist

This might sound a bit harsh now, but seeing that a few idiots try to ruin the fun of ten thousands of people I'm completely FOR naming cheaters.
I'm sure the mighty ones have seen the problem and I'm also sure they can't sleep atm finding out a proper solution to this issue.
If I find someone cheating on one of Concept racing servers, or if a reliable friend tells me that person xxx used some kind of speedhack even ONCE on an online server he is going to get a lifetime ban immediately (I'd go and mark my calendar so I can resume the ban when the 999 days are over!)
I can totally understand if someone wants to achieve a certain goal in a singleplayer game and uses a cheat (everyone has done it). But this is not okay if it changes other player's game experience in any way.

that happened to me too after half a year.
If you have some spray grease or oil with that long plastic nozzle thing on it, just put it down the pedal rods and lube it up. I live in silence since 3 1/2 years now :-)

voted fzr.

Since s2 I've been fascinated by the gtrs and totally fell in love with the 924GTS lookalike XRR. I'm not quick in it, but got used to its bitchy behaviour easily.
Brake early, use gears to brake, keep the turbo spinnig during the corner, balance your way out of it.
Also it's a real beauty on the track, it looks much finer, more fat free than the other two.

the Porrari-FZR is different. A fat pig in my eyes. It feels like a container ship in heavy storm.
Brake early (doNOT overuse gears), wait and let it roll through the corner completely, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait STOMP IT! Feels strange.

I can't really say something about the FXR (what is this, a VW passat 4wd??), it's easy to drive but with unexperienced drivers it's just plain slow and eats tyres like gummibears.

Quote from Stang70Fastback :Well, maybe that's why YOU would do it. Some people do it because it's FUN to work on a car and upgrade it. Others do it because it's FUN to drive a fast car.

Yes, adrenaline can be a part of it, but a lot of people also do it because it's enjoyable. I put speakers my car because it's FUN to work on it and figure out how to wires stuff. It's also fun to use them to make silly noises or to call out friends in the school parking lot. I don't play LFS for the adrenaline rush, I play it because it's fun!

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not telling anyone to stop doing what he/she likes, and I also do many many things for fun! Me racing lfs or slotcars, riding my bike, etc. etc., these things won't get mankind anywhere.
It is just as useless as speed world records. but they cost a fair bit more and bring other relevant disadvantages with them.

Also when I installed a sony radio with cd changer and some cute speakers into my Mini once, I did it for fun... but the actual goal was not having fun building the thing, it was listening to it when I finished it. And by doing funny stuff on the school parking you also want to impress, don't you?

Sure we've got different brains... we Germans don't believe in Monarchy anymore Naah, we're mostly the same...

When someone spends a few grand on their STi to make it go faster, they are not "advancing the worlds collective engineering knowledge".
When I spend a few hundred to put PA speakers on my car, I am not "advancing the worlds collective engineering knowledge".
When you spend a thousand an an LFS-capable computer, you are not "advancing the worlds collective engineering knowledge".

Alright, that's why I said before that hormons rule the world... You want to have a better car with a louder radio to impress female humans, mate with them and secure the spreading of your dna..... That's why we fight against each other in EVERY way possible, period. (don't take this too seriously, but after all why are we here?!)

Quote :
You are having FUN though... aren't you? And isn't that all that really matters?

No, fun is something different (and I'm serious now!). We do things for adrenaline, but that can be achieved with less effort! Try bungee jumping, ist about 100% cheaper than building a billion $ car and racing it for 3 minutes before the vehicle goes into some museum forever.
As far as I see it these guys doing this want to have attention... or attract the most women (see stuff written above).

Trying to break the land speed record is not only dangerous and expensive, it's utterly useless and doesn't mean a single thing for mankind.

Those top speed records are literally complete nonsense. You collect money, buy the biggest power source you can get, put some metal around it with space to fit the 5 tons of gas and a driver in, and try to be faster than the mofos from xyz-contry. It's like the fight for the first moon landing between usa and ussr, just even more stupid (and more money involved maybe).
Did jet car people ever show genius in engineering? Did they really invent something that's useful today? Jet turbines? Fuel injection? Proper brakes? Airplane tires? other features?

No

Everything has been there (long) before, people building rocket cars have ALWAYS used technology that already existed. If it were for science purposes, speed records on wheels would be international affairs.

Concerning death rates for those attempts, many many people have died trying to break class records, just because there's no daily update in the news doesn't mean nobody died. Example: I've never heard of a fatal accident on the Isle of Man TT, at least not on the news.

With our track races it's just slightly different.. F1, DTM, nascar and
the like are for sure only testosterone and money on wheels... but at least they drive corners and have to brake. That's what keeps them closer to our normal cars, and sometimes, once in a while some F1 engineer invents something that IS useful. I can't remember what that was though... can you?

Quote from yoyoML :If I remember correctly, that wheel uses a pot for the steering axis, while all Logitech wheels use digital sensors. The DFP already started using ball bearing, which outlasts its pedal set greatly.

I do like the RGT's additional analogue paddles very much.

Yep, it uses a pot as steering input...
I've got mine for 4 years now and it's working great, no spikes in steering or pedals, no wobbly feeling because of worn out bearings, no problems at all... it costs around 120€ new, comes with 3 pedals. Imo that's everything you might need.

Thrustmaster Rally GT pro is THE alternative. Much sturdier than the dfp, better bearings than a momo AND the dfp, half the price of the g25, steering as smooth as the g25, less crappy under installation/calibration, more silent and easier to set up than ALL the others.
And totally forgotten by a logitech fanboy community.

Quote from faster111 :Microsoft will end OEM and shrink-wrapped sales of Windows XP on June 30, 2008
blabla
There is a precedent for that, too: In many respects, Vista is like the Windows Millennium Edition that was meant to replace Windows 98 in 2000 but caused more trouble than it was worth. At that time, Windows 2000 was promising but didn't support a lot of hardware, so users were stuck between two bad choices. Without admitting Millennium's failure, Microsoft quietly put Windows 98 back on the market until the fixed version of Windows 2000 (SP1) was available. blabla

What does ME have to do with 2000????
ME is a graphically, more messy DOS-based Win95/98 while 2000 is a "proper" operating system based on WinNT...
Back in the days win98/ME were for home offices and players while NT and 2k were for workstations and servers.
MS never intended 2k to be a player's OS, many players switched to it when there were drivers and dx available. 2k has by far been one of the most stable microsoft products.

indeed, if you really need a cheap wheel try and search for a sidewinder (only usb-version!!). Usually you get one frome ebay, lube it up, maybe fix some screws and you've got a wheel that still is good to drive, has got ff and responds very quickly!

I used a €3,95 joypad for the additional buttons.
sure it is no proper box, I just needed some chat buttons so I didn't have to touch the keyboard while driving.
Flyboys set is something different though and a tiny bit more complicated, but only playing lfs and only using joy2key to assign the buttons I feel quite comfortable with this cheapo solution :-)

I got a sapphire hd2600xt for around 130€/90 pounds (it's cheaper nowadays), I can play at 1680x1050(/100fps limit) with everything maxed just fine. I'm totally happy with the card.
My processor is a c2d E6550, 2 gigs of ram.
If you've got a little more money left you can go for a 3850, this one might be even quicker.

Don't ever listen to stupid replies like scooby's... following garph's reply might be the way to go here.
